About Avocado Caprese
Avocado caprese is a modern riff on the Italian caprese salad, the Campanian trio of tomato, fresh mozzarella, and basil that celebrates summer produce at its ripest. Here ripe avocado joins the lineup, its buttery richness playing against the juicy tomato and milky mozzarella, all layered over a bed of arugula for a peppery lift. It keeps the spirit of the original, where the whole point is contrast of textures and the freshness of each component, while adding creaminess and staying power.
The dish is really an assembly, so success is about ripeness and arrangement rather than cooking: tomatoes and avocado sliced to match the rounds of mozzarella, basil tucked between the layers, and a simple dressing of olive oil and balsamic to draw everything together. A little salt and black pepper is all the seasoning it needs. Naturally low in carbs and quick to build, it makes a light lunch or an elegant starter, best eaten soon after dressing so the avocado stays fresh and green.
