  • 50 g Ice cubes (optional)

Method

  1. Put the mango, yogurt, milk, cardamom, honey, and ice into a blender.

About Mango Lassi Smoothie

The mango lassi is one of India's most beloved cooling drinks, a yogurt-based blend that shows up alongside spicy meals and on the menu of nearly every Indian restaurant abroad. This smoothie version keeps the classic proportions: ripe mango for sweetness and body, yogurt for a gentle tang and creaminess, and a little milk to loosen it to a drinkable consistency. A whisper of cardamom is the traditional aromatic touch, lending a warm, floral note that lifts the fruit without overpowering it. Honey rounds out any sharpness, and the result is thick, tangy, and dessert-sweet.

Because it comes together in a single blend, the only real technique is getting it fully smooth and, crucially, cold. Ice blended right in chills and thickens the drink at once, and a splash more milk sorts out a mix that is too stiff for the blades. Lassi's cooling, slightly acidic quality makes it the natural foil to fiery curries, calming the palate between bites, but it is just as good on its own as a fast breakfast or an afternoon pick-me-up. Serve it properly cold in a tall glass, when the mango tastes at its most vivid.

Equipment: blender.
