About Overnight Oats

Overnight oats are the no-cook version of oatmeal, a make-ahead breakfast that relies on time in the fridge rather than a pot on the stove. Raw oats are stirred into milk with a little honey and cinnamon, then left to sit for at least four hours so they soften and swell, drinking up the liquid until they reach a thick, pudding-like consistency. There is no cooking and barely any work: the whole thing is assembled in a jar in about ten minutes the night before, then eaten cold.

Because the oats soak rather than boil, the texture is creamy and yielding but keeps a little chew, quite different from hot porridge. Sliced banana adds natural sweetness and chopped walnuts bring crunch and richness, so each spoonful has some contrast. High in fiber and portable straight from the jar, it is built for busy mornings and desk breakfasts, and the base takes well to swaps like berries, nut butter, or seeds. Making two jars at once means two mornings sorted with a single round of prep.
