  • 500 g Ground beef
  • 800 g Potatoes
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 Carrot
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 200 g Canned tomatoes
  • 200 ml Chicken stock
  • 60 g Butter
  • 100 ml Milk
  • 1 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1½ tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Extra-virgin olive oil (optional)
  • 1 Bay leaves (optional)

Method

  1. Peel and cube the potatoes; cover with cold salted water in a pot, bring to a boil.
  2. Simmer potatoes until fork-tender, about 18 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile dice onion, carrots, garlic.
  4. Soften onion and carrot in oil for 6 minutes. Add garlic for 1 minute.
  5. Add beef; brown for 6 minutes with salt and pepper. Sprinkle flour and stir 1 minute.
  6. Stir in tomatoes, stock, oregano, bay. Simmer 5 minutes to thicken.
  7. Heat oven to 200°C (400°F). Drain potatoes; mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
  8. Scrape the filling into a baking dish, top with mash, rough up with a fork. Bake 20 minutes until golden.
  9. Rest 5 minutes, then serve.
