Ingredients

  • 200 g Toor dal (split pigeon pea)
  • 2 Tomato
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 15 g Ginger
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp Ground turmeric
  • 2 Dried chilies
  • 2 tbsp Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 0.4 tsp Salt
  • 3 tbsp Cilantro (optional)

Method

  1. Rinse the dal and simmer with the turmeric and chopped tomato in plenty of unsalted water until collapsed, about 25 minutes.
  2. Grate the ginger and slice the garlic.
  3. Sizzle the cumin seeds, garlic, ginger, and dried chili in the oil until the garlic is golden and fragrant.
  4. Stir the tempering and the salt into the dal and simmer 3 minutes to marry.
  5. Finish with cilantro and serve.
