About Turkey Lettuce Wraps

Turkey lettuce wraps take their cue from the Chinese restaurant classic of minced meat served in crisp lettuce cups, popularized as an appetizer but easily scaled up into a light main. Ground turkey stands in for the traditional pork or chicken, browned until it's savory and crumbly, then tossed with garlic, ginger, and grated carrot and glazed with soy sauce for a punchy, aromatic filling. The lettuce is the whole point: cool, crunchy romaine cups that you fill and eat by hand, giving every bite a fresh, snappy contrast to the warm, spiced meat. Scallions and a stripe of sriracha finish it with sharpness and heat.

The appeal is in the interplay of textures and temperatures, the juicy, gingery turkey against the cold crunch of the lettuce, with soy providing salt and depth and sriracha bringing an adjustable kick. Using lean ground turkey keeps things high in protein and low in grease, so it's filling without sitting heavy, and skipping any wrapper or rice keeps the whole thing light. It's a fun, hands-on meal that works as a quick weeknight dinner or something to pull apart and share, ready in around twenty minutes. Set the filling and lettuce cups out separately and let everyone build their own.
