About Salade de Thon

Salade de thon is the French pantry answer to a fast, filling lunch — a tuna salad built on tinned fish and canned white beans, requiring no cooking beyond boiling a couple of eggs. Cannellini beans give it body and make it a proper meal rather than a snack, while the tuna keeps the protein high. Thinly sliced raw onion adds a sharp bite, and a straightforward Dijon-lemon vinaigrette pulls everything together with mustardy tang and citrus brightness. Fresh parsley folded through keeps it from tasting like something out of a can.

This is the sort of dish that rewards good pantry staples and comes together in around fifteen minutes, most of that just waiting for the eggs to cook. The texture is a mix of creamy beans, flaky tuna, and crisp onion, finished with quartered egg on top for richness. It sits comfortably in the tradition of French and wider Mediterranean bean-and-tuna salads eaten at room temperature. Serve it as a no-fuss lunch, a light dinner on a warm evening, or scaled up for a crowd; a slice of good bread on the side is all it really needs.
